Cyber Security Roadmap
Build a foundation for security operations, investigation and defensive practice.
STEP 01
Understand the systems you protect
Build networking, Windows, Linux and identity knowledge. Security tools make more sense when you understand normal user activity, network traffic and system behaviour.
STEP 02
Choose a starting direction
Security operations focuses on logs, alert triage and incident handling. Vulnerability work focuses on finding and explaining weaknesses. Governance focuses on controls, evidence and risk. Explore these responsibilities before choosing a specialisation.
STEP 03
Practise within an authorised lab
Use a deliberately vulnerable training environment or a system you own. Record the scope, observations, evidence and remediation. Explain business impact clearly, rather than listing tool output.
STEP 04
Create evidence of your skills
Prepare an incident timeline, a short log investigation or a remediation report. Review the cyber security diploma and practical workshops, and ask which labs support your chosen direction.
